International Women’s Day: Celebrating Capita’s Best

Today (8th March) is International Women’s Day – an official day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. IWD has been celebrated around the world since the early 1900s, with the earliest Women’s Day held in New York in 1909.

In the workforce, women are still struggling to reach an equal level with men. Women make up 60% of those earning less than the living wage (The Fawcett Society), and at the other end of the business hierarchy they are vastly underrepresented. Only 7 of the companies in the FTSE 100 have female CEOs – that’s half the number of companies on the list with a CEO named John! (The Telegraph)

However, there are still many women in the business world who are demonstrating their skill and occupying positions of influence. At Capita, we are dedicated to recognising the best and brightest across our workforce. As IWD is intended to celebrate female success, what better time to shout out to some of the inspirational women we are honoured to work with?

Cath Possamai is Capita’s Director of Talent and Resourcing, and last year was named one of the most influential recruiters in the UK by Recruiter magazine. Just one of Cath’s initiatives saved Capita £500k in search fees alone! Read our interview with Cath in our November 2016 newsletter here 

Sally Earnshaw is the Managing Director of Blue Sky Performance Improvement, a business acquired by Capita in 2013. For over 20 years Sally has led and developed sales and customer services teams, achieving outstanding results. Jo Causon has been the CEO of the Institute of Customer Service since 2009. Alongside her many other achievements since then, she has driven membership growth for the Institute by 150%. Jo has collaborated with Capita Customer Management on a number of occasions and was interviewed for our Autumn 2016 intelligence report, which can be read here 

Catherine Howe is Capita’s Director of Digital Transformation, and is an expert in how communities embrace digital innovation, collaboration and social media. Read Catherine’s blog post on the subject here.

Capita’s Remediation Services business has no shortage of experienced women in its ranks. Business Director Sue Campbell has been developing and transforming large scale customer service operations for over 20 years, and is accountable for the creation and leadership of a team of up to 1,500 people. Support Services Director Rebecca Horsey has over 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry, and a proven track record of running operational improvement programmes and supporting major transformation across a variety of industry sectors. Business Development Director Tracey Roberts meanwhile has an impressive 30+ years in the industry, and once ensured the successful delivery of an operation which turned a small project of 4 people into a key partnership now totalling over 800 FTE!

Finally, in July last year we interviewed Vanessa Workman and Rachel Barrow from one of our contact centre operations about their work as customer service agents for our Summer newsletter. Since the interview took place both women have gone from strength to strength – Vanessa is now an operations trainer and Rachel is a key member of the escalations team!
